September auction (#148) held 23-24 September 2017 achieved sales of £470,000
The most remarkable thing about current trends is the increase in the re-sale value of modern Royal Mint commemoratives and proof sets. Initially this seemed to be for coins issued in recent years, but now proof sets dating back to the 1970s are increasing in value and the demand is getting stronger.
The large collection of 19th Century tokens sold for a hammer price of £12,400.
The second highest price in the auction was £8800 hammer for a gold proof four-coin set of George VI, Coronation 1937. Photographic postcards from the Fred Viner Collection were highly sought after. Overall there were lots of surprises and we were delighted with the result. This was the largest auction, in terms of number of lots, we have ever held, and the combined sales approached our previous record.
Our next auction will be The Fine Sale, 11-12 October, to be available to view online very soon. The printed catalogues will go out this week.
