May Auction of Coins & Collectables achieved total sales of £362,000
There were many strong prices realised including for German military relics such as a Messerschmidt tail piece fragment at £500, a Pickelhaube for £440, and de-activated Tiger Tank shells, one of which selling for £460 hammer. The Anglo-Saxon and other English hammered silver and gold coins sold well, for example Lot 1442, a testoon of Henry VIII with an unusually clear portrait, went for £2900. Amateur football 9ct gold medals sold surprisingly well. Royal Mint proofs showed continued growth and interest, well exceeding expectations. A rare trial farthing 1821 sold for £1050 hammer against an estimate of £180-£220; a very subtle and interesting variety! The stamp collections were fiercely contested, with one in particular Lot 2416, selling for £7000 !
