142nd Auction, the Fine Sale of jewellery, watches, art and antiques was
held on 15-16 February 2017. 1225 lots were offered. Total
sales £264,334 including charges.
This was an excellent sale for our antiques and fine art department. The auction room was packed on both days, and over 1000 bidders registered online. Rare watches fetched the top money, especially Rolex's and military Omegas. Some nice original pictures went under the hammer including a Giles original illustration. A very quirky item; the Napoleon bust chamberpot sold well above estimate. Some of the biggest surprises in the auction were the 1930s textile design plates, especially those of Sonia Delaunay which went sky high. A cello bow stamped W.E. Hill & Sons (estimated at £50-£80) went straight up to £1800 first bid and made us all jump. It went for £2200 hammer in the end.
Our March sale of Coins & Collectables will be available online shortly.
